Mill Ruins Park Engagement Photos | Jordan + Elliot

By Joanna Carina Leave a Comment

Mill Ruins Park Engagement Session

Jordan + Elliot were so excited to have fall engagement photos. Thankfully, even though we were in a full-fledged pandemic, we could still work safely outdoors. They considered a few location options for their session, including beautiful Stillwater MN and Mill Ruins Park. After paying a few visits around town, they opted for Mill Ruins Park. I absolutely love that location! It is filled with old ironwork and stone down by the historic riverfront of Minneapolis. We were so lucky to have a beautifully spectacular day for their fall engagement session!

Mill Ruins Engagement Photos

The day arrived, and Mill Ruins Park was busier than I’ve ever seen! We had plenty of time to wait things out and just hang around and talk, so the time seemed to fly. The two of them had such a great time – joking, laughing and having a blast, almost as if I wasn’t even around. We wandered around the park enjoying the beautiful river scenery while photographing away. The time was up before we even knew it! And Jordan + Elliot loved their photos!

Thank You!

Jordan + Elliot, thank you so much for working with me as your engagement photographer! I had so much fun working with you for your beautiful photos. And I am so excited for your big day next year!

Be sure to take a look at an additional Mill Ruins Park engagement session I photographed too!

Mill Ruins Park + Guthrie Theater Senior Photos | Amari

By Joanna Carina Leave a Comment

Minneapolis Senior Photography

Amari’s beautiful Minneapolis senior photo session is on the blog today. I was contacted by Amari’s mom to capture her senior photos. She loves theater and was instantly in love with the idea of working at the Guthrie for her photos, and also wanted to work at Mill Ruins Park right next door. Both are perfect locations for a beautiful portrait session!

Guthrie Theater Senior Session

We started our afternoon at the Guthrie Theater. We had fun playing around the nooks and crannies of the theater, and especially loved the view from the Endless Bridge. Once we finished at the Guthrie, we headed down to Mill Ruins Park for more photo fun.

Mill Ruins Park Senior Session

We photographed Amari throughout the Mill Ruins Park area, until the sunset ended our beautiful light. We had so much fun and Amari was laughing and having a great time the whole way.

Once we were finished, I invited the whole family out to my studio to show them the final “best-of-the-best” photos from Amari’s day. They ended up choosing a number of matted fine art prints to treasure forever!

Thank You!

Thank you, Amari, for choosing to work with me for your senior photography. I had so much fun working with you and your family, and I am thrilled that you love your photographs. Amari, best of luck with your future endeavors!

Mill Ruins Park Senior Pictures | Tatiana

By Joanna Carina Leave a Comment

Minneapolis Senior Photography

Today I am highlighting Tatiana’s beautiful Minneapolis senior picture session. Tatiana’s mom Teri contacted me requesting a session with Tatiana. They had found my work online and decided to contact me, and I was thrilled! Senior sessions are so much fun, and I was excited to work with them!

Mill Ruins Park Senior Session

Tatiana wanted to hold her senior portrait session at Mill Ruins Park in downtown Minneapolis, along the riverfront. I love that beautiful park! She gravitated toward the park because it was a favorite location of her father, who had passed away just a couple of years ago. Holding her portrait session here was such a perfect homage to her dad.

The day arrived and it was sunny, although a bit on the cold side. We were all dressed in our warm layers and coats, while Tatiana wore her cute dresses and sandals. She persevered and it seemed the cold barely bothered her at all! We wandered through the grounds of the park as Tatiana rotated through three outfit changes and we stopped at numerous locations. We even had time to take a break before sunset to warm up in our cars for a few minutes too.

Viewing + Ordering Session

Teri + Tatiana loved the final images. They settled on ordering an Heirloom Print Box featuring a handmade copper-foiled glass box with heirloom matted 8×10 prints. These boxes are so unique and gorgeous! I am so excited to finally see the final box.

Thank You!

Thank you, Teri + Tatiana, for choosing to work with me as your Minneapolis senior photographer. I had so much fun working with you both, and I am thrilled that you love your images. And Tatiana, best of luck with your future endeavors!

Mill Ruins Park Senior Photography | Kate

By Joanna Carina Leave a Comment

Minneapolis Senior Pictures

Today I am highlighting the beautiful Minneapolis Senior Photography of Kate’s senior session. I worked with Kate at Mill Ruins Park in Minneapolis on a beautiful early fall day. Take a look at some of the beautiful photos we created!

Why Senior Pictures?

One big question many people wonder: why would we have senior pictures taken? School pictures are a yearly tradition, often happening right inside the school itself. Now forward to the last year of high school: it’s a time of tremendous life transition. Often times, seniors will soon leave home for colleges or jobs away from home and/or out of state. They become adults making their way in the world. Senior portraits celebrate that monumental transition.

Professional Senior Pictures

Working with a professional photographer means these portraits are not just standard school portraits under bright lights with generic backdrops. These portrait sessions can be held in a wide variety of locations that reflect the senior’s interests and personalities. From urban industrial scenery, to natural park settings, and anything in between. They can even bring props that reflect their interests, such as musical instruments, sports equipment, dance outfits, pets, etc. The sessions are around 1.5 hours or so, giving time for a variety of posing, locations, and even a wardrobe change or two. The time also allows for the senior to become more relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. This gives his/her personality a time to shine!

Senior Picture Benefits

Another major benefit of having senior pictures taken is the end product. You get more than just one final pose in front of a dull backdrop. You receive a wide variety of images, from full-length to closeup, from walking to sitting to standing, laughing, smiling, etc. With those images, you can find your favorites. From there you can create an endless variety of heirloom artwork. Our seniors and their families have purchased numerous artwork options. Some include albums showcasing all of their favorite images from their session, matted gift prints for family, smartphone albums, wallet prints, and even wall art.

All in all, senior pictures are an important part of life for a family celebrating the senior’s transition in life. If you are looking for a Minneapolis senior photographer, please contact me soon so we can discuss working together!

Mill Ruins Park Engagement Photos | Chris + Antonio

By Joanna Carina 1 Comment

Mill Ruins Park Engagement Photos

There is something so sweet about these two. The glances. Cute jokes. The time when Antonio pretended to almost push Chris into the river, causing them to burst out in the most infectious laughter until we were all crying. Yeah, these guys are awesome. Definitely my kind of people! I am so excited to be able to photograph their wedding next summer at the Landmark Center in downtown St Paul.

LGBT Engagement Photos

When deciding on their engagement session location, Chris + Antonio decided they wanted Mill Ruins Park engagement photos near downtown Minneapolis. And of course, why not? It’s a perfect mix of vintage stone structures in a grand natural setting. Old stone and ironwork ruins, grasses and wildflowers, an amazing riverfront, and the stunning Stone Arch Bridge all encapsulated in one location. It’s pretty spectacular!

Minneapolis Engagement Photos

They spent lots of time wandering around beautiful Mill Ruins Park so we could find gorgeous points to photograph the them together. We photographed among the stone and iron ruins and the wildflower fields, as well as down by the river and under the Stone Arch Bridge. We had such an amazing experience cracking jokes, laughing and getting to know each other! Our session seemed to be over in a flash.

Chris + Antonio visited my studio to see their final photos and choose their favorites. They had such a tough time choosing among all the options! They settled on a number of favorite images to use for an engagement photo album and wall art. I can’t wait to see everything in final print. I know it will look absolutely amazing!

Thank You!

Chris + Antonio, thank you so much for choosing to work with me as your Minneapolis engagement photographer. I had such a great time working with you. I’m so excited for your wedding next year. It will be tough to wait until August!

Mill City Museum + Mill Ruins Park Senior Photos | Claire

By Joanna Carina Leave a Comment

Mill Ruins Park Senior Photography

I’ll admit – she was brave. It was another cold, blustery day in Minneapolis, but Claire WANTED to have her senior photos at Mill Ruins Park because she loved the images she had seen of that beautiful location. And I warned her – it was going to be cold! But she was brave, as well as prepared. We started out at the Mill City Museum to warm up a bit, then headed over to the park. We worked for well over an hour in the freezing wind, but Claire was still cheerful, laughing, and making jokes with her mom and me the whole time. Congratulations on your high school graduation, Claire – and I hope you enjoyed your senior prom as well!

Mill City Museum + Mill Ruins Park Engagement Photos | Katie + Bob

By Joanna Carina 1 Comment

Mill Ruins Park Engagement Photography

“Looks great you guys! OK, just one more second….” ~Click~ “Alright, I got it!”

“OK, NOW we need to go inside!” Bob had decided that he’d had enough of the blustery, icy wind that was numbing his ears and hands. He and his fiance, Katie, had planned on photographing their engagement session in Mill Ruins Park, however, the Minnesota winter of 2014 quickly changed their minds. Luckily, we had just started only a few minutes prior, so changed to working on Mill City Museum engagement photos, where we had previously decided we could finish our session if Mill Ruins Park turned out to be too cold. And it definitely was! (After I-don’t-know-how-many Polar Vortexes this winter, we had all pretty much tired of trying to suffer through any more.)

Mill City Museum Engagement Photography

After warming up for a few minutes following our freezing walk around the corner to the museum, we were able to jump right back into the swing of things, and got some amazing photos of the two of them. Luckily, we were visiting the museum during the later half of a weekday, so there were not many members of the public to contend with. We were able to spend lots of time there having fun around the beautiful venue.

Thank You!

Congratulations Katie and Bob! Thank you for hiring me as your Minneapolis engagement photographer. I had so much fun on your Mill Ruins Park and Mill City Museum engagement photos. And I’m so excited to photograph your wedding later this year!
