I received a call one afternoon from Sully. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend Allison at the Como Park Conservatory, in the Sunken Garden, and had rented it out in the near future. The two of them had a strong connection to the Como Conservatory, with Allison’s grandmother being a long-time volunteer, so he knew it would be a special place for her. Once Sully and I confirmed date and time, and made plans to be as sneaky as possible so Allison didn’t suspect anything, it was on to the big event!

Once Sully brought Allison to the Conservatory’s Sunken Garden, I was able to sneak a few photos of the actual proposal before Allison knew what was going on. I loved Sully’s triumphant “whoop” (photo below) when Allison discovered our plan and saw me capturing their photos! She was a great sport and excited for couple photos too. We spent some time in the gorgeous Sunken Garden before heading outdoors for a few last minute photos of them in front of the building. They headed out for a celebratory dinner afterward.

Woodbury Central Park Wedding Photos | Emily + Dustin

I was so excited for Emily + Dustin’s big day! We started at Christ Episcopal Church in Woodbury for the prep time and ceremony. We included some photos there of them beforehand as well, but they opted for no first look, so then it was on to the ceremony!

Once their wedding ceremony was complete, we took a small detour over to Tamarack Nature Preserve for a few photos of them together in nature. They loved it! We walked across the boardwalk and around the pond a bit, then it was on to the reception!

We began the reception with group photos, family photos and then photos of Emily + Dustin alone in the Woodbury Central Park gardens. It was so cute! Then they had a quick cocktail hour, and a grand march followed by their first dance and parent dances. They followed that up with dinner and toasts, and then danced on into the night.

Como Park Wedding Photographer | Nickie + Tony

Como Park Lily Pond Wedding

I arrived for Tony + Nickie’s wedding day early, as I always do, and soon met up with Tony at the Lily Pond (where we had decided to hold their first look) at Como Park. Tony was a little nervous, but still very excited for the big event. Since I had never met them in person before, Tony made sure to let me know that “Nickie will be the one with green hair.” Sure enough, she arrived a few minutes later and she was hard to miss – dressed in her gorgeous flowing gown, stunning flowers and petite sparkling crown, she had the cutest green hair I had ever seen! I walked her over to meet up with Tony, and we began their first look. We had planned to capture their initial portraits at Como Park’s adorable Lily Pond area, complete with beautiful pond, fountains, bridges, gardens, a white pergola, and even a “reverse waterfall”. They were so happy and had such a great time! Once their portraits were complete, it was on to the North Garden for a few more portraits and finally their ceremony.

Nickie’s father presided over the wedding ceremony, which was also attended by a number of their relatives and close friends. They even had a hand-fastening ceremony right over the water feature of the North Garden. The whole event was so beautiful!

After their ceremony, they celebrated the night away at their reception dinner next door in the Conservatory’s Ordway Garden.

Muriel Sahlin Arboretum Wedding Photos | Lauren + Luke

Muriel Sahlin Arboretum Wedding

Lauren + Luke chose to work with me for their wedding photography at Roseville Central Park’s Muriel Sahlin Arboretum. I’ll admit, despite living just a few miles away, I had never seen the Roseville Arboretum before now. I was very pleasantly surprised with the gorgeous venue full of gardens, fountains and trails through the woods. Luke + Lauren had decorated the covered ceremony area with wisteria flowers and it was absolutely stunning! The Arboretum also had an adorable little cottage for the wedding team to assemble, which was so helpful too. Lauren + Luke held their first look and portraits beforehand, and then it was on to the ceremony!

Lauren + Luke’s wedding was absolutely stunning and everyone was so happy for them. They had a lovely receiving line and time for group portraits afterward, and then we all headed off to Como Park for their reception.

Como Conservatory Covered Porch Reception

Lauren + Luke’s wedding reception was held at Como Park’s Covered Porch (part of the Como Conservatory complex), starting with cocktail hour and then dinner. Afterward they had a cake cutting and dancing, and everyone had a blast.

Chinese Tea Ceremony Wedding Photos | Weiman + Spencer

Como Chinese Tea Ceremony Wedding Photos

Weiman + Spencer were living out-of-state while planning their wedding day Chinese Tea Ceremony. I was so happy they chose me for their wedding photography. Their wedding event was held in St Paul’s Como Conservatory Sunken Garden. (I even love the Conservatory so much, I got married there myself!) They planned their event based on a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony, and I was so excited!

The day began with some photos of the two of them together around the grounds of Como Park. We then photographed them with their families prior to the ceremony. Once that was finished, we were able to head into the Sunken Garden for the big event.

Their wedding was officiated by one of their good friends. They incorporated the Tea Ceremony elements, honoring and thanking their families in the process. When all was finished, they had a few more minutes for Conservatory photos before heading off to their celebratory dinner, and then heading back to Washington to begin their new lives together.

Como Park Sunken Garden Wedding Photography

Patty + Andrew worked with me for their beautiful wedding day photography at one of my favorite venues – the Como Conservatory Sunken Garden. (I love it so much, I got married there myself!)

We started their day with preparation at the Drury Hotel in downtown St Paul. Once they were both ready, we headed over to Como Park. We started with Patty + Andrew’s first look and a few portraits on the Como Park grounds. Once those were finished, we captured their wedding party group photos as well as family photos. Then it was on to the big event!

Patty + Andrew’s wedding ceremony was so beautiful, surrounded by the beautiful floral space of the Sunken Garden. After their ceremony, we spent some time with photos of them inside the Sunken Garden.

Como Covered Porch Wedding Reception

Patty + Andrew’s wedding reception was held in the Como Conservatory Covered Porch. They started with cocktail hour, then dinner and toasts. We had a little detour during the toasts when a severe storm hit and the Conservatory staff shuttled us into the basement. We discovered there was a nearby tornado! After the danger passed, they let us back out to finish the party. Everyone had a good laugh over the events, and then had fun dancing away into the night.

Brenda + Adam worked with me for their beautiful wedding day photography at one of my favorite venues – the Como Conservatory Sunken Garden. (I love it so much, I got married there myself!)

St Paul College Club Wedding Photography | Laura + Mitchal

St Paul College Club Wedding Photography

Laura + Mitchal loved the beautiful vintage architecture and gorgeous gardens of the St Paul College Club, so it was a perfect fit for their big day. It was tough planning around the global Covid pandemic, but they were very careful and everyone had a wonderful time!

The two of them and their wedding party prepared in the bride and groom suites onsite at the St Paul College Club. Once they were ready, they had their first look in the back yard. We followed with couple photos, wedding party photos and family photos. Then it was time for the big event! There were tears of joy and laughter as they tied the knot.

Once the ceremony was over, Laura + Mitchal enjoyed some time alone upstairs while the guests enjoyed drinks, hors d’oeuvres, music and games outside. They rejoined the party just in time to cut the cake and then head in for dinner. After toasts, everyone had a blast dancing and enjoying the night.

Saint Paul Cathedral Wedding Photography | Angela + Ryland

Cathedral of Saint Paul Wedding Photography

Angela + Ryland had a beautiful early September Cathedral of Saint Paul wedding. That should stop you in your tracks right there, because this is one of the most stunning, jaw-dropping churches in the state! I could get lost inside photographing its splendor.

Their big day dawned absolutely perfect. They both prepped at different hotels so they would not accidentally run into each other before the big event. We met up on the front steps of the Cathedral itself to have their first look. They were so excited to see each other! And they appreciated their venue as well, and wanted their first look, as well as a giant post-ceremony guest photo, on the impressive front steps right below the amazing architecture.

Como Lakeside Pavilion Reception

After their ceremony and altar photos, we headed over to Como Park’s Lakeside Pavilion for Angela + Ryland’s reception. We started with photos outside near the beautiful waterfall and greenery. The reception room itself was set for dinner and dancing, and Angela had custom-painted all of the Norwegian decor featured throughout, including the table numbers and signage, as well as the traditional Norwegian kransekake gift box featured on the cake table. They were amazing! After dinner and toasts, Angela + Ryland had their first dance, and then danced the night away with their family and friends.

North Garden Elopement Photography | Catheryn + Ezekiel

Como Park Conservatory Proposal Photography

Catheryn + Ezekiel were engaged and had been planning to have an outdoor backyard wedding during the Covid pandemic. They waited and watched to see how to pandemic would unfold. Finally they decided they were just too nervous to have a wedding with a number of traveling friends and relatives risking illness. So they decided to elope! They chose to work with Leslie of Charmed Petites Wedding to arrange the elopement as well as be their officiant. They chose Como Park due to its small size, the gorgeous venue, and their love of plants. (Ezekiel’s grandfather had owned a garden store – how cool is that?)

Catheryn + Ezekiel arrived at Como Park in a limousine one autumn afternoon. We headed indoors to the Como Conservatory North Garden for their ceremony. They first started by live-streaming their closest relatives so they could attend without being there in-person or needing to travel. Their ceremony was short and sweet, and they were married! Afterward, we captured more photos in the North Garden, especially near the Allspice plant as an homage to Ezekiel’s grandfather. We also had a little extra time for photos outside to capture the beautiful building before they headed off to their Davidson Hotel weekend celebration.
