Meet Joanna Carina

For more than 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing high school seniors throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the Twin Cities. Every senior has a unique personality and story, and that’s what inspires me every time I pick up my camera.

Senior year is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, and my goal is to create portraits that feel authentic, timeless, and unmistakably you. Rather than relying on stiff poses or forced smiles, I’ll gently guide you with natural movement and conversation so you feel relaxed, confident, and free to be yourself.

One of the greatest compliments I receive from parents is hearing, “I can’t believe how comfortable my child became in front of the camera.” Many seniors begin their session feeling nervous, but leave smiling, confident, and surprised by how much fun they had. Helping teenagers discover that confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

The Senior Photography Experience

Joanna strives to make your senior photography process easy for you. Here is a bit of what you can expect when working together:

1. CONSULTATION // Every exceptional portrait begins with a conversation

Before your session, I’ll take time to get to know you—your personality, interests, style, and the vision you have for your senior portraits. Whether you’re dreaming of a downtown Minneapolis skyline, quiet natural landscapes, or a combination of favorite locations, we’ll thoughtfully plan every detail together.

We’ll discuss locations, timing, clothing, artwork ideas, and how you want your portraits to reflect who you are during this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. By the time your session arrives, you’ll feel prepared, confident, and excited knowing every detail has been carefully planned.

2. WARDROBE + LOCATION PLANNING // Choosing what to wear shouldn’t feel overwhelming

During your planning consultation, I’ll help you select outfits that complement your personality, photograph beautifully, and coordinate with the locations we’ve chosen. We’ll talk about colors, textures, layering, accessories, and how to create a variety of looks that feel authentically you.

Whether your style is timeless and elegant, casual and relaxed, bold and modern, or somewhere in between, I’ll guide you every step of the way so you arrive at your session feeling confident and looking your very best.

3. PORTRAIT SESSION // Relax, have fun, and simply be yourself

You don’t need modeling experience to create beautiful portraits. Throughout your session, I’ll gently guide you with natural posing, movement, and fun prompts that help you forget about the camera and simply enjoy the experience.

Many seniors tell me they were nervous before their session, only to discover by the end of the session it was easy and effortless to just be themselves. My goal is to create an experience where you feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely yourself—because the most meaningful portraits come from authentic moments, real laughter, and natural expressions.

4. DESIGN CONSULTATION // Seeing your portraits for the first time is one of the most exciting moments of the entire experience

After your session, you’ll return to the studio for a cinematic portrait presentation where we’ll enjoy your culled portraits together on the big screen. I’ll help you select your favorite portraits and personally guide you through designing custom wall art, handcrafted albums, matted print collections, and other heirloom pieces created specifically for your family and home.

Together, we’ll transform your favorite portraits into artwork you’ll enjoy every day instead of letting them disappear into a cell phone folder.

5. ARTWORK DELIVERY // Your portraits deserve to be seen and celebrated

Every piece of artwork is professionally crafted using museum-quality materials designed to last for generations. From elegant framed wall art and handcrafted Italian albums to archival fine art prints, each piece is carefully created to become a lasting part of your family’s story.

Once your artwork is complete, I’ll personally inspect every detail to ensure it meets my highest standards before it’s delivered.
